Anne is a coworker for the last 5 years, and a good friend of my wife and I. I have had the pleasure of working, and riding motorcycles, with her and her husband Ron ever since I started working at my current job. She has never been anything but welcoming and kind to myself, as well as everyone that she has come in contact with. At work events, she has always made it a priority to also make my wife feel included.
About a year ago, Anne was diagnosed with bladder cancer, and began her immunotherapy to prevent the cancer from spreading before she would have the bladder removed. She would often talk with me about hoping she could still ride after the surgery and what options gave her the best chances to still get her wind therapy. She wasn't afraid of the cancer as much as she was worried about never being able to ride her HD Sportster again.
The bladder removal was a success, and while she still began another round of immunotherapy to make sure the cance was gone for good, Anne began telling me how excited she was for bike season here in Wisconsin. Whether she was on the bike of Ron's Road Glide or possibly riding on her own, she was ready for the upcoming Museum bike nights and rallies all summer long.
This week, Anne discovered the cancer had moved into her blood stream and bones. The prognosis is not positive, but Anne is a fighter. Ron and her are determined to make sure they do all they can to extend the “window” of time, while also preserving Anne's quality of life.
With the high cost of any type of medical treatment, much less cancer, and overall inflation, I can only imagine the financial toll this has taken on their family. Ron mentioned understanding the balance between making the time left enjoyable, but also trying to be financially prepared for him and his teenage daughter when the day comes. I am asking anyone who is able ans willing to help, to give what they can to ease some of the burden, and allow them to make the most of the time they have.
I appreciate all for taking the time to read this, and those who can help with what they can. Thank you.
