About this fundraiser

Hello Friends,

It’s been quite some time since many of you have heard from me, and I wanted to share an important and personal update about my health.

As some of you may know, I was diagnosed several years ago with Autoimmune Liver Disease. Over the past six months, my condition has sadly progressed. I am now in Stage 3 of 5, and my MELD score (a measure of liver function that ranges from 6–40) has increased from 13 to 18. A few months ago, my doctors confirmed that my liver failure had become acute, and I completed all the required testing to be placed on the National Liver Transplant Registry, where I currently remain.

This journey has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life. Between the emotional toll, physical exhaustion, and financial strain, it’s been incredibly difficult to keep everything together. I’ve struggled with ongoing insurance denials for essential tests, emergency visits, and monthly blood panels that are now necessary to monitor my condition. These uncovered medical expenses have caused me to fall behind on my mortgage, placing my home in danger of foreclosure.

As a single mother, I do my best to stay strong and keep smiling for my children, even on the days when my body and spirit feel completely worn down. They are my strength — the reason I keep fighting.

Last year, I achieved one of my lifelong dreams: I built my own small business — 100% woman-owned, 100% veteran-owned, and operated. It was something I poured my heart and soul into, built on a foundation of integrity, creativity, and care for both people and the environment. Not being able to run it the way I once could has been heartbreaking. But even through that loss, I remain thankful for the journey — and for the incredible people God has placed in my life through it.

I’m sharing my story not out of defeat, but out of faith and hope. I’ve learned to see God’s blessings even in the hardest moments. He has surrounded me with love, friendship, and grace — through mentors, clients, and friends who continue to lift me up with encouragement and prayer.

If you feel led, I humbly ask for your prayers. Prayer truly has power, and I’m trusting fully in God’s plan for my healing and my future.

Thank you all for the love, kindness, and support you’ve shown me throughout this journey. Your continued prayers mean more than words can ever express.

With love, gratitude, and faith,

Carla K. Barnes 🤍✝️🕊️
