About this fundraiser

Hello friends and compassionate souls,

Thank you for taking time to read my story.

I'm Nevil Patel, an immigrant in Canada who embarked on a journey from India in pursuit of a better life for my family. In February 2023, our lives were shattered when my father received the devastating diagnosis of colon cancer. What ensued were months of unimaginable hardship and heartache.

During the initial surgery, complications arose, leading to a perilous situation. A surgical staple, meant to safeguard his intestine, came loose, causing a dangerous intestinal leakage. My father went into septic shock, putting him at grave risk of multi-organ failure. The infection spread rapidly, and despite his brave battle, we tragically lost him in April 2023.

As the eldest son, I was thrust into the role of shouldering an overwhelming financial burden. My father spent nearly 1.5 months in the ICU, requiring daily dialysis, surgeries, and extensive medications. The hospital bill amounted to approximately INR 36,00,000 (equivalent to CAD 60,000), which included daily medicine costs of $1000, daily dialysis costs of $150, hospital stay charges of $200, and cremation expenses of $5000. Heartbreakingly, our medical insurance covered only a fraction of these expenses, leaving us with an insurmountable debt.

I had to liquidate all my savings to cover these exorbitant costs. Despite having a job, I find myself unable to bear this immense financial burden alone. This is where your support and kindness can make a profound difference. No contribution is too small, and every dollar will help alleviate the heavy debt that hangs over my family. Your generosity will honor my father's memory and ensure that our family can navigate this trying period with hope and dignity.

Thank you for considering supporting us during this challenging time. Your contributions are deeply appreciated, and we are forever grateful for your kindness and compassion.

God Bless,

Nevil Patel
