About this fundraiser

I started my healthcare career journey in 2019. I completed The Patient Care Technician program (PCT). I started working at St. Mary Hospital. I felt so accomplished and motivated to help others. The next step of my journey was recently I graduated as a Phlebotomist from Malcolm X College. I now proudly work for Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. Northwestern is ranked one of the top 3 hospitals in the nation. I now work as a phlebotomist in oncology. My father who has passed was a charge nurse at Cook County Hospital. My ultimate goal to become a Registered Nurse BSN. I have graduated and successfully earned my associate's degree. Nursing is my passion.  I did all of this while being a single mother of 4 children.
Graduating as a successful Nurse would greatly help me and my family. I also take care of my mom. Being an experienced nurse would help me care for my aging mother. I have determination to reach my goal. I cannot explain how special I feel inside to see the smiles of my patients. I'm taking smalls steps, but I'm motivated to achieve my goals. As you can see, I'm dedicated to my career. Funding my tuition is difficult as I don't qualify for financial aid. I want to show my children how to chase their dreams of success. I also want to make my mom and my entire family proud. I recently decided I will attain a career as a Nursing school teacher since my passion has always been assisting others and trying to improve their quality of life. I want to contribute back to society with my attained knowledge. The medical field is an important field.
I know that all of my goals will remain dreams if I do not complete my nursing degree. Therefore, I am committed to working hard in school and looking for that could help me make my goals a reality. After I graduated high school, I was certain that if I wanted to pursue a higher education, I needed to be persistent and determined to achieve my career aspirations. I would not be at this level in my education without my mom's love and support. Without having my fathers who passed away when I was very young love and support.
While I am constantly looking trying to find more work and searching for scholarships that will help me pay for my nursing education, I remain grateful to find opportunities like the one your foundation is providing to students. It makes me feel that I am not alone on the journey of accomplishing my goals. I believe I deserve to be selected for one of your foundation’s scholarships because as a hard-working student, I commit myself to effectively take advantage of the opportunity that the scholarships will provide me. Besides, I am a student that does not only persistently works hard academically, but also, I constantly try to improve my own community's quality of life by doing volunteer work.
