Our father, Ralph, has been suffering with vascular dementia. over the last five years. This is a deteriorating physiological condition which causes memory loss in older adults that can also cause problems with reasoning, judgment, and other processes caused by brain damage.
Ralph is a loving father, grandfather of four, and great-grandfather of two. He served as a veteran in the Army National Guard for over 11 years. He worked for 16 years for the Town of Westport and 12 years for the Town of Acushnet. He also worked part time serving various communities as the owner of a land surveying business as a civil engineer. In 1972 he built a home with his father, father-in-law, and uncle that he raised his family in.
Unfortunately, with the decline of his mental health, over the course of two plus years he fell victim to an elaborate lottery scam taking him for well over $20K. This was investigated by the I.R.S. and the culprit was arrested in August of 2025. However, we are hoping and praying, but it's highly unlikely that we will see any of these funds returned. He also fell victim to two local elderly ladies on two separate occasions. They took money directly from him while visiting him at his home. These monies totaled close to $20K. Both of these situations ended up draining his bank accounts.
Currently he is in a facility with hospice care. They take his Social Security and retirement monies only leaving $75 monthly.
I reached out to where he made his funeral arrangements and they mentioned that his life insurance policy was going to pay for his expenses BUT he cashed it in to give to the fraudulent lottery scam to cover “the taxes for the lottery and car.” The funeral home told us that it would cost about $15K which is why we are seeking help to raise funds to help this well deserved and highly accomplished father, grandfather, friend, and Veteran get the proper services that he is so worthy of.
