EspañolWe never thought May 6th would change our lives forever . My 16 year old daughter started having chest pains, I took her to the ER who immediately sent us to Duke hospital. She was diagnosed with with severe dilated Cardiomyopathy. She had to have an emergency surgery placing a device called an impella, inside her heart to keep it functioning until transplant. She has Virginia insurance so there's a battle between NC and VA for payment of a heart. I am a single mother that has dropped everything to be at my daughters bedside. The Drs anticipate I will be out of work approximately a year. The bills are starting to pile up. The disability progress for her has been lengthy already to get some assistance. Please help us fight this battle .

We will have to stay another week at Duke. The biopsy results showed unknown antibodies trying to attack cells in the heart. There was a slight rejection, but not enough for concerns. Jolee will start a Pheresis machine tonight or tomorrow, which is like dialysis but for the heart. It will filter out any bad or unknown antibodies from the heart. She was will have to have 5 treatments lasting about 2 hours every other day. She has already came so very far. Please keep her in your prayers as we battle this setback we were so not hoping for.
