My name is Mayci Annyel Shortt, and at 27, I live in a rural home on Milford St in Bowling Green. As a hourly worker, I’ve always budget-planned every penny, but three days ago, our household faced an unspeakable biohazard nightmare. Severe heavy rain saturated the soil around our private septic drainfield, causing a catastrophic pipe collapse that pushed high-pressure wastewater straight back into our crawlspace and lower bathroom.

The raw sewage flooded through our flooring, destroying drywall, insulation, and bathroom fixtures. When our homeowner's insurance inspector assessed the damage, he delivered a crushing blow: because the septic failure was triggered by 'groundwater saturation and soil movement,' standard policy explicitly excludes septic backups unless a separate endorsement was bought.

The out-of-pocket cost for specialized biohazard extraction, soil excavation, and pipe replacement is $5,400 upfront. Right now, our home is completely unlivable and unsanitary. I am swallowing my pride to ask my community for help. Every dollar raised goes directly to the emergency excavation crew to make our home safe and clean again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
