Hello everyone,

My name is John, and this is my wife, Emjay.

To be honest, my heart breaks a little every day. After undergoing a PET scan, Emjay was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Before that, she had already been diagnosed with dementia. Since then, my life has changed completely.

For the past several months, I have not been working because I need to be with her and make sure she's safe and cared for. As a result, our monthly budget has become extremely tight.

There is now a medication called Leqembi that can help remove some of the amyloid plaque associated with Alzheimer's disease. It is not a cure, and it is not perfect, but it offers hope and can provide benefits beyond the medications that have been available for many years.

The challenge is the additional cost of treatment. To safely receive Leqembi, Emjay will need regular MRI brain scans to monitor for potential brain bleeding, a known risk of the medication. She also requires physical therapy and strength training twice each week to help maintain her mobility and quality of life. In addition, there are co-pays associated with each infusion appointment.

Thankfully, her insurance covers most of the treatment expenses. In approximately 14 months, I will begin receiving Social Security benefits, which should allow us to manage these costs. Until then, however, the financial strain is significant.

Here is a breakdown of the expenses we expect over the next 14 months:

• Physical therapy and strength training: $30 co-pay per visit, 8 visits per month for 14 months = $3,360

• MRI brain scans to monitor for potential bleeding: Estimated 8 scans at a $275 co-pay per scan = $2,200

• Leqembi infusion appointments: 28 visits over 14 months at a $30 co-pay per visit = $840

Total estimated medical expenses: $6,400

To help cover platform and processing fees, my total fundraising goal is $6,650.

I know many people are facing challenges of their own, and I don't take any request for help lightly. If you are able to contribute, no matter the amount, it would mean more to us than I can adequately express.

I wish I could continue working, but right now my place is by Emjay's side. Caring for her is my highest priority. This journey has not been easy, but one thing has never changed: she comes first.

Nothing brings me more happiness than seeing her smile. At this stage of our lives, her comfort, her well-being, and her happiness mean everything to me.
