I am David, and I never imagined I would be in this position. I am 63 years old, homeless, and a recent amputee. Not long ago, I went to the emergency room because I had a severe flesh-eating bacterial infection. The doctors had to perform emergency surgery, and I was told that if I had waited any longer, I might not have survived. I was discharged from the hospital about a week ago, and I am now trying to recover while also facing the reality that I have no income, no stable housing, and I am newly diagnosed with diabetes.

When I called my best friend from the hospital and told her I needed help, she did not hesitate. Even though she is already struggling and raising two kids, she opened her door to me and has been caring for me hand and foot. Because of her housing situation, I can only stay there temporarily, and she has fallen behind on rent while helping me. She has helped me through some of my hardest moments, including when I could not get out of bed and needed help with including when I could not get out of bed and needed help with the most basic care. I am asking for support so I can cover a hotel, a wheelchair, medical supplies, transportation, food, and other basic necessities while I recover and work to get my own benefits in place.
