If you’ve ever had the privilege of watching a love that spans decades, you know what my parents shared.
For 45 years, my dad, Mike, and my mom, Mary, built a life side-by-side. They were true partners in every sense of the word. Dad was a proud Army veteran who spent his life serving—both in the military and in our home—and he was Mom’s absolute protector, provider, and best friend.
A few days ago, our entire world shattered.
Dad passed away completely unexpectedly. There was no time to prepare, no chance to say a proper goodbye, and no warning that our lives would change forever in a single moment.
Now, the house is impossibly quiet.
My mom is standing in the middle of a grief so deep it leaves you breathless. But while time stopped for her the day Dad died, the rest of the world kept moving. The mail is still coming. The basic household bills—water, gas, insurance, phone service, the roof over her head—are arriving, but the person who helped her carry that weight for almost half a century is suddenly gone.
Without Dad’s income and with military and survivor paperwork taking weeks or months to process, my mom is facing an overwhelming financial reality on top of a broken heart.
Why We Need Your Help
My mom has spent her entire life giving to everyone else. She is the person who shows up for others, cooks the meal, offers the shoulder, and asks for nothing in return. Right now, she needs us.
We can’t take away her heartbreak. We can’t bring Dad back through the front door. But together, we can take away her fear.
We are raising funds to give my mom a safe landing pad for the next 3 to 6 months. Every single dollar raised will go directly toward keeping her stable while she grieves:
- Keeping her home warm and safe: Covering basic utilities like gas, water, electric, and trash.
- Keeping her connected: Paying her phone bill so family and friends can reach her day or night.
- Providing daily basics: Food, home insurance, auto insurance, and essential living costs.
- Honoring Dad: Helping cover any unexpected out-of-pocket memorial expenses as we prepare to honor him with full military honors.
How You Can Stand With Us
If you are able to donate, please know that no amount is too small. $10, $25, or whatever you can spare buys my mom time—time to breathe, time to cry, and time to remember Dad without the terrifying panic of how she will keep the lights on next week.
If you aren't in a position to give right now, you can still help us immensely:
- Share this page with your friends, family, and social networks.
- Leave a memory or a prayer for Mom to read. Knowing she isn't alone means more to her than words can say.
Thank you for loving our family, for honoring my dad’s memory, and for helping us hold my mom up when she needs it most.
With all our love and gratitude,
The Fletcher Family
