For nearly 15 years, Zazu, a beautiful 20-year-old Harlequin Macaw, spent most of his life confined to a cage with little interaction, enrichment, or opportunity to simply be a bird.

Over time, he began plucking his own feathers, and the curious, playful bird he deserved to be was hidden behind years of isolation.

When I welcomed Zazu into my home, I knew his journey wouldn’t be easy. Rebuilding trust after so many years takes patience, consistency, and a whole lot of love.

But little by little, Zazu has been showing me just how much life he still has left to experience. ❤️

He’s learning to play, explore, interact, and trust again. Every little milestone reminds me why I started this journey.

Now I have a dream of giving Zazu something he’s gone without for far too long: a large, safe outdoor aviary of his very own.

A place where he can feel the sunshine, enjoy fresh air, climb, destroy toys, forage, and experience the enrichment every parrot deserves.

Donations will help purchase the aviary materials, secure flooring, and an attached sheltered area to protect him from the elements.

But my dream doesn’t end with Zazu.

His journey has inspired me to begin building a small parrot rescue dedicated to taking in birds who need a second chance, helping them recover physically and emotionally, and finding them loving, knowledgeable forever homes.

Zazu is the first chapter of something I hope will one day help many more birds just like him.

Every bird deserves more than simply surviving. They deserve the opportunity to thrive.
