Help My Husband George and I Find a Safe Place to Call Home

My name is Laura Larson, and my husband George and I never imagined that we would find ourselves homeless and living in our car. Yet this is our reality right now, and we are doing everything we can to make it through each day while holding onto hope that things can get better.

George has Type 1 diabetes and is in and out of the hospital because of his health. Every time he needs to go to the hospital, we face the fear and uncertainty that comes with his condition, along with the financial strain of simply getting there and getting through another day.

George receives $994 a month in SSI, but it is not enough for us to afford rent and the basic expenses of maintaining a home. By the time we pay for food, gas, and the necessities we need just to survive, there is nothing left for us to save toward housing.

Living in our car has made everything harder. We struggle to afford enough gas to keep our car running, especially when George needs to get to the hospital. We don't have a refrigerator, which makes it difficult to safely store food. There are days when we have to worry about where our next meal will come from, while also wondering where we will sleep and how we will make it through the next day.

No one should have to worry about these things, especially while dealing with serious health challenges.

We are asking for help because we want to change our situation—not just temporarily, but for good.

Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase a used camper and a small lot to put it on.

We aren't looking for anything fancy. We simply want a safe, stable place to live. A camper would give us somewhere to sleep, a place to keep food refrigerated, and basic living space. Most importantly, it would give George somewhere safe to come home to and recover after leaving the hospital instead of returning to a car.

Having a small lot of our own would give us something we haven't had in a long time: security, stability, and a place we can finally call home.

We know this is a big goal, and asking for help is not easy for us. But we have reached a point where we cannot get there on our own. We are doing our best with what we have, but there simply isn't enough left each month to save for the future.
