Eleven years ago, we experienced one of the most meaningful days of our lives—we adopted our oldest son. In that moment, our family changed forever. He taught us that family isn’t defined by biology, but by love, commitment, and showing up for each other every single day.

Two years ago, life gave us another chance to live that truth again.

Our oldest son’s biological younger brother came to live with us after his grandmother was no longer able to care for him. By then, he had already endured more heartbreak than most children ever should—instability, multiple homes, and the impact of his biological parents’ addictions and incarcerations.

More than anything, we wanted these brothers to know each other and grow up together. When we learned he needed a home, we didn’t hesitate. We opened our hearts and our home so he could finally experience stability, safety, and the unconditional love every child deserves.

From the beginning, we wanted him to know one thing above all else: he belongs here.

The first time we heard him laugh with his brother, we saw a glimpse of the child he was always meant to be.

Since then, we’ve reminded him often that he is safe, loved, and part of this family for good. He no longer has to wonder where he will sleep or whether he will be moved again—this is his home.

Like many families formed through trauma and healing, our journey hasn’t been easy. There have been tears, fear, sleepless nights, and moments of doubt. Healing takes time. But every difficult moment has been worth it.

Because this is who he is: a smart, funny, goofy little boy who brings joy into our home every day. He makes us laugh, his brother laugh, and he is slowly growing into the confident, secure child he was always meant to be.

We’ve watched fear turn into trust, and uncertainty turn into confidence. Today, our home is filled with laughter, sibling bonding, and the everyday joy every child deserves.

Now we are asking for your help to make official what has already been true in our hearts for the past two years: we are adopting him so these brothers can continue growing up together, without the fear of separation.

The final step comes with significant legal and adoption expenses. While we have done everything we can, we cannot complete this journey alone.
