I've seen Mr. Dan multiple times over the past six months, making deliveries around our area in Frederick/New Market/Mt. Airy. He's 75 years old, manages medical conditions, and spends his days working delivery jobs because he feels he has to. On top of everything else, he takes care of his wife at home.
The second time I saw him, something shifted in me. Here was this man, clearly worn down, still showing up day after day. I felt called to do something. I gave him everything I had in my pocket that day—$100—so he could spend an evening at home on Saturday instead of working. When Mr. Dan received it, he cried and hugged me. That moment stayed with me.
I went back into the restaurant where I'd been eating and talked with Angela, one of the servers. We both felt the same thing: Mr. Dan deserves rest. He deserves a break from the constant grind, a chance to be home without the weight of financial pressure pushing him back out the door.
That's what this fundraiser is about. We're raising funds to give Mr. Dan some real, meaningful rest during the holidays. We want to help ease his burden, if only for a little while, and let him know that his community sees him and cares. He's given so much to his work and his wife. Now it's time for him to receive and REST.
Please help the two Angela’s grant this wish, donate what you can to “Mr. Dan,” our local delivery man!
