UPDATE

It breaks my heart to update everyone that Ruben passed away on 4/7/26, peacefully, at home surrounded by people who love him. Our immediate goal has been to secure cremation services, as well as a celebration of life. I've been busy trying to accomplish just that. Thank you to everyone for your prayers and support during this time. Without it, i don't think i could keep going.

Hi everyone,

I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but I am reaching out for help during the most difficult time of my life.

My husband, Ruben, is now home on hospice.

He went into a diabetic coma, and during his hospital stay there was a serious medical error that caused a brain injury and changed everything. Before this, he was fully independent and living his life as himself.

Ruben and I have been together for 13 years. He is my partner, my home, and my best friend.

Since then, we have received devastating news. Ruben has stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has spread to his liver, along with kidney failure. There are no more treatment options, and his time is very limited.

I am his IHSS caregiver, and because he was hospitalized, I had no income during that time. Now I am caring for him full time and getting paid for 80 hours a month, and when he passes, that income will stop completely.

At the same time, expenses are continuing to build, including: • rent and basic living expenses
• end-of-life care needs
• and funeral/cremation costs

I have been told that cremation will cost 1800 and must be paid at the time he passes. Without it, he will be sent to the coroner and I will not be able to bring him home or keep his ashes.

Right now, my focus is making sure he is comfortable, cared for, and not alone.

If you are able to help in any way, it would mean more than I can put into words. Even the smallest amount helps right now. And if you cannot donate, sharing this would help us tremendously.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for keeping Ruben in your thoughts.

With love,
Kimberly
