Unfortunately about 1 and ½ weeks ago I had a syncope episode at the end of mass. The thought is now the tremendous stomach and back pain that had gradually started a few days prior led to this. In the hospital they found a very large cyst on my ovary with fluids and blood from the cyst trapped in the many adhesions I have been left with after 6 prior abdominals surgeries. I had another admission a couple days later when some lab values changes. My case was given to an independent GYN specialist who saw this as urgent and plans to do a bilateral oophorectomy sending me straight into menopause. I have already had a hysterectomy while 22 weeks pregnant for a placenta perceta. I’m not going to go into a sob story of all my diagnoses and surgerie, but I will share this unplanned urgent surgery came at a very hard time. Even though I’ve been an RN with the majority of that time at MUSC my medical debt is debilitating. i have over 6,000 in collection, a little over 6,000 about to go into collections. I’m unsure of my ER/admission/ ambulance ride yet. I do know I was only able to pay $50 toward a $200 MRI bill. My copay for the pre-op is $250. And I will owe over $6000 for the surgery that does not include everything; anesthesia, etc. my state taxes are garnished by MUSC for my debt and have been for years. I don’t make much as RN now working at an outpatient office and always have to ask for help with rent that will increase next month and an almost $2000 monthly USAA bill covering young male drivers. This surgery scares me. After all the blood, sweat, and tears I’ve put in as a nurse seem pointless when I’m the one in crisis. I would never dream of asking for money. I donate a lot, but in all my thoughts, calculations, and prayers I don’t see how this urgent surgery and the aftermath will be feasible. I’m also continuing to raise a young family as they are just now trying to fly on their own wings. I also have 2 dogs and 3 cats I need to feed. If you consider donating my gift back is to tithe 20% of whatever I am gifted back to the community. I have been out if work for almost 2 weeks, the recovery time is anywhere from 12-16 weeks before I can return at full capicify. I’ve also had to drop some classes for school as im trying to earn my theology degree and take that and probably an eventual masters with my nursing background to begin to start a change in the business of health care. I want to advocate for patients and help them with resources they don’t even know exist. Thank you so much for reading this. I can be long winded and a bit scatterbrained. Thank you for any consideration. Just as much as I humbly ask for donations, if that’s not something you want or are able to do I ask for prayers. For the medical team, my family, and myself. With so much kindness-Rebecca
