This has been one of the hardest things our family has ever had to face.
On June 10, our family became homeless and since then we have been sleeping in our car while trying to figure out our next steps. Alongside us are our cat and puppy, who are part of our family too, and we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe and together.
Before anyone judges or assumes—we do work. This situation did not happen because of neglect, laziness, or poor choices. Life simply became more expensive than we could keep up with. Rising costs, higher bills, gas prices, and unexpected circumstances slowly became impossible to manage.
To make things even harder, leading up to this, my partner—who is a first responder—was diagnosed with PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder after experiencing one too many traumatic scenes involving children. Because of this, he has been unable to work since October while focusing on treatment and healing. It has changed our lives in ways we never expected.
At the same time, our landlord realized they could make more money using the property for Airbnb, and unfortunately we found ourselves in a position where we could no longer stay.
Since losing our housing, we have not stopped trying.
We have called 211, reached out to Community Housing Network, and we have finally been connected with caseworkers. We know help takes time and that resources do not happen overnight, but we are actively doing everything we can to get back on our feet.
Through all of this, we are trying our best to keep our spirits high, stay hopeful, and protect some sense of normal for our family even on the hardest days.
We are not only asking for monetary support. If you cannot donate, we completely understand. We are also asking for:
• Housing leads or resources
• Mental and emotional support
• Encouragement and kind words
• Prayers
• Community connections
• Anything that may help us get through this season
Every share, every message, every resource, every prayer, and every act of kindness means more than we can put into words.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for helping remind our family that we are not alone.
With gratitude,
Rebecca,John, Nova, Alena, & Family
