    Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay in posting a thank you. It has been hard to read these messages, mostly due to spelling errors and typos… Right, who is writing this? No, this has been a very emotional time for Brian and me. It is so hard to put these emotions into words.

I came to Omaha not knowing anyone. I was only supposed to be here for a year. Shortly after starting, all of the amazing people from the Zoo & the Safari Park that I met made this place feel like home. I was offered a permanent position and that feeling of family only continued to grow over the years and you all became such a huge part of my life. I got even further tied into the zoo culture when I married an aquarist from the zoo. What is it about those aquarium guys, uhh?

It truly has been a place I have loved due to you all and the amazing animals that we all have the pleasure to care for. I have always enjoyed our interactions talking about animals but also the fun and sometimes challenging personal stuff we all shared with one another.

You all are such a fun, giving, talented, caring and dedicated group of people. I have learned so much from every one of you. I have always felt a strong team atmosphere that made even the hard animal decisions easier on us all.

You all brought so many laughs and positive interactions to my life for the past 13.5years. I wouldn’t trade it for anything and truly miss it and will continue to miss it so much.

I hope all of you can manage to keep that fun, supportive environment alive. Please keep in touch and text fun pictures or updates to me. I will do the same.

I am so appreciative of every one of you.

    Ploog!

About this fundraiser

Dr. Christina Ploog has been an incredible veterinarian at the Omaha Zoo for nearly 15 years. During her tenure, she built amazing friendships with countless people and treated every animal under her care with exceptional intelligence, deep empathy, and genuine kindness. She is a truly talented and caring colleague whose dedication to the animals and the zoo community is unparalleled.

We are collectively heartbroken to share that Dr. Christina recently lost her position at the zoo through no fault of her own. The loss of such a gifted and caring professional is a shock to all who know and admire her work.

As the holidays approach—a time for gratitude and supporting one another—we want to show Christina and her family that their community stands firmly behind them.

We are raising these funds to ease the immediate financial burden this transition has created. Your support will give them the vital space and time needed to navigate their future without the added stress of unexpected financial strain.

Every donation, large or small, is a meaningful expression of the love, respect, and gratitude we all have for Dr. Christina Ploog.
