My mom & dad have been married for 64 years. They are 83 & 86 years old. They have raised 4 children, & 7 grandchildren including me who was adopted at birth.
The last grandchild my parents raised they were in their 70s.
My dad who is also an air-force veteran has always been the provider. 5 years ago he finally retired after 40 years at the same company. He did and still is receiving social security but with the ever changing economy each year has gotten harder & harder. So my mom decided to help ease their financial burden got a part time job. As did my dad also.
After one of my moms evening shifts, she fell in the parking lot while walking to her car. The fall was caused by a neglected, damaged curb at her workplace. Later that evening, she ended up in the hospital with a broken neck and in immense pain.
That was over a year ago, and life has not been the same since.
Since the injury, my mom has dealt with ongoing health issues and has fallen multiple times. In late April 2026, she fell again & suffered a laceration that required several staples in her head. Just two days later, she was unable to move or speak while in bed and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had pneumonia.
Each setback which in the past year have been many has brought more pain, more fear, more hospital time, & more stress for both of my parents.
My dad who is 86 is doing everything he can as my mom’s primary caregiver.
They still live in a split-level home where the only bedrooms/ bathrooms are located upstairs on the second level. My mom unable to barely walk much less go up stairs has had to relocate to the main living area. If she needs to use the bathroom my dad has to assist her up the stairs to do so.
The only compensation my mom was offered through Workers’ Compensation was $3,000. That does not come close to covering what this past year has cost them physically, emotionally, or financially.
Funds raised will go directly toward helping my parents through this difficult time. Expenses including medical bills/appointments, mobility/home safety/equipment, transportation, caregiving support for dad, and everyday expenses as they continue to navigate my mom’s care as more issues have arisen.
My parents are not the kind of people who ask for help. They have spent their lives carrying others, loving their family, & doing the best they could with what they had.
Myself & my family are doing the best we can to carry them. But we could use some help.
Please, if my parents story touches your heart and you feel moved to help, any donation would mean so much. Your support will help ease some of the stress they are under, bring more comfort, hopes of stability, & peace to their daily lives.
If you are not able to give financially, sharing this fundraiser is also a meaningful way to help. Every donation, every share, and every kind word reminds my mom & dad that they are not facing this alone.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story, and thank you for any support you can give.
Please donate to comment.
