Hello. My name is Tameka. I have a son, Deterrias, who has Sickle cell anemia, which is also known as SS disease. It is a painful and debilitating disease that affects your red blood cells by causing them to become sickle shaped. There is a cure, which is a bone marrow transplant, but it is very expensive and requires us to move to Nashville, TN for approximately 5 months or longer. We are responsible for paying for our accommodations such as an Airbnb, hotel, or a rental home. All I have ever wanted was for him to be healthy and this transplant will give him the life he has always deserved. He has been held back by this disease since he was 6 months old, this transplant would give him the chance to experience life to the fullest, for the first time. A bone marrow transplant isn't just a medical procedure for him, it's a doorway. It's the chance to live without constant pain. The chance to plan a future without fear of the next hospitalization. The chance to pursue careers and opportunities that his condition has made impossible until now.
This is not about giving him something extra, it's about giving him a fair shot at the life he deserves.
Your support helps us move closer to that future, a future not defined by sickle cell, but by his potential.
