As bad as I hate to fundraise for myself it has come to this.  My home is in serious need of repair before this part of my home collapses.  this was discovered when my front porch had to be torn off because it was crumbling and becoming dangerous for me to try and walk on.  It was a concrete porch and whoever built it years ago tilted it back to house and water ran between it and house rotting out 16-18 feet of the wood that my house sits on and 3-4 joists that run under my dining room are rotted about 8 foot back.  I’ve been trying for the last 2 years to get help to fix it to no avail.  I have only one way in and out of the house and if there is ever a fire in the back of the house I have no way out.  I finally found someone to fix it and my son and daughter in law managed to scrape together the $1100 for them to fix it.   They came and got one joist fixed started on the next and every time they tried to jack it up stuff would fall on them.  They investigated and the wall in my dining room is rotted at least up to the bottom of the window.  The wall can be pushed on inside the house and it moves and one of the rotted joist is holding up a column between living and dining room that holds up part of the roof.  These guys say they can fix it for $10000.  I don’t have that kind of money, only insurance I have is for fire so no help there.  I’ve reached out to USDA, finally got all the paperwork they wanted and they say my papers for a grant won’t even be processed for another 6 months.  I heard to try Habitat for Humanity that sometimes they will help seniors.  Their answer was no.  I’ve reached out to our local PADD office, 3 weeks ago, and crickets from them.  I don’t know what else to do or where to turn.

     I am a 67 year old widow of nearly 4 years.  I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer in December of 2020, my husband who had lots of health problems was hospitalized in March of 2021 for a month.  Because of Covid and my compromised immune system I could not visit him.  He was sent for therapy to get stronger to come home.  He wasn’t even there 2 weeks and he passed away the day before my last radiation treatment, April 7,2021.  There was no estate other than our home and a small amount of insurance.  in February of 2022 I had a horrible water leak in the bathroom and rot was found there, whole bathroom had to be redone.  Then my septic tank had to be pumped out then we discovered there had been a leak next to the chimney and caused rot to one of the walls in the utility room.  Only way I had to pay for all these repairs was credit cards.  I had to declare bankruptcy because I couldn’t make the payments.  So now I can’t get a conventional loan to fix the front of my home.  I had to quit work after I started cancer treatment and cannot return because of what all the radiation has done to me.  I was cancer free for 16 months but my last PET scan, July 2024, showed a spot in the same area.  Not known if cancer again or inflammation will have another scan in Novembe.  I live off of my social security and survivors benefits.  I have no way to fix my home and I’m afraid that at any time that part of my home is going to crumble.  It’s scary and very stressful.  Please if you can help me.  Thank you.
