The infection is what is keeping Charles's case from being presented to the panel transplant board. They won't approve anyone with an active infection, which is what they're currently trying to resolve.

Jan. 12, 2026 update and thank you! My apologies for not being better about keeping this updated.

Charles has been in San Antonio since last weekend (I believe Jan 3rd). He remains at the Liver Transplant Center where he has been going through evaluations. Our donations to date, and his Dad's help where possible, allowed him to make this trip and pay his bills. If Charles has not been able to thank you personally yet, he definitely wants you to know how grateful he is! 

There is good news - his heart is in great shape - a requirement when qualifying for liver transplant. There is still much we don't know though, and he is hoping results are good enough that his case will be presented to the transplant panel, so he can graduate to a new phase. He is still paying for everything, and that is the reason I've increased the requested donation amount, and plan to continue this drive for now. 

Whether it is a share, a prayer, positive vibes, or a continued donation, we are still helping Charles get through the financial burden of this. Last we talked, he emotionally shared how grateful he is to all of you. If you have his contact information and want to reach out, please do. There is a lot to get through, and your friendship is as important as anything.

I’m reaching out today to ask for your help. As many of you know, Charles has been battling ulcerative and inflammatory conditions and has been hospitalized since Thanksgiving with a recent kidney complication.

This comes at an incredibly difficult time. Charles is currently unemployed and facing a mountain of expenses, from steep COBRA premiums to mounting hospital bills. The financial strain, on top of the physical toll of his illness, is considerable.

Time is critical. With 2026 just days away his insurance deductible is about to reset, creating another immediate financial hurdle for the care he desperately needs.
