Giatano Armando Magliochetti
On the morning of November 29, 2022 me sister and I were contacted by the U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy. Our brother was pronounced dead. 19 yr old healthy young man. We need help with funds to ship his body back to the U.S. & afford small funeral/burial services in a plot where our grandmother lies.
Although he lived his last three years of life alone in a country he insisted on living and starting a life in we want people to know we supported his every wish. We want people to know that he was a good soul.
Our family has gone through the most unspeakable and unthinkable loss and Hardship since February 2020. From the time that our brother Giatano was taken into custody as an unaccompanied minor in Rome Italy at 16 yrs old and aged out of the foster care at 18yrs old. He was dealt a crappy hand of cards in this life. Honestly all of our siblings were but like us Tano did the best to make good choices and he let his DRIVENNESS keep him going. In 3 short years he learned to speak fluent Italian, Novice Arabic as well as Novice Albanian to be able to communicate with other foster youth his age.
He updated us every step of the way. He graduated high school. He aged out of foster care. He transitioned into adult housing. He chose all the good and productive things in life to keep himself occupied.
A day for our brother meant waking up early at 5am to catch two buses and a train to his University (1+hr commute one way) where he was studying film and computer science this last 2 years. After he would go serve food at a local restaurant for this past year and earn money to save up for when he aged put of the Adult housing once he turned 21. He had plans and he made good choices. After work he would take another train and two buses to get back to his housing in Rome, Italy. He would arrive home at nearly midnight. And he would work out then study and do it all over again.
Some close boys in the foster group home became his family. Good boys that were of immigrant family from Egypt, Albanian, Pakistan etc.
At 19 years old he left behind a girlfriend of 3 yrs, four sisters (Texas & New York), nieces, nephews, a mother (Michigan), stepfather (Middle East) and many cousins. We are asking in our time of need that you help us raise funds. Right now we have to gather a list of documents to provide to the U.S. Embassy in Italy so that they can follow an ongoing investigation as well as help us arrange for his body to be shipped back to the U.S. please share with family and friends. We supported our brother and we need to follow through and honor his memory the right way.
We will share testimonies of memories and life changing bonds Tano made while in Italy on the day of his funeral.
Me and my sister are being told that the cost to ship his remains will be ~$15k alone. We will still need a casket, plot and cost of a small funeral. None of us have our parents all we have are each other and we have been trying in our own ways to break cycles of mental health, sin, addiction etc. He dod not smoke, drink or anything he said “I refuse to feed my body those types of vices.”
For privacy reasons we are requesting that you refrain from any inquiries regarding his death as we are mourning and trying to figure out the logistics of getting our brother’s remains from Italy to the U.S.A. Please share with family, friends and colleagues anyone who is compelled to donate anything at all would be a great help.
We believe that God was watching over our brother this whole time and as he touched other foster youth and made good choices his number was up.
Our God touched Tano and said “You did good kid and I’m ready to call you back home with me.”
Thank you for any kind donation you may be able to consider. Funeral services will be in Houston, TX TBD
