I'm a full time worker and University of Louisville student living alone with several medical conditions — recently diagnosed, long unaddressed. A medical crisis put me on FMLA leave, and the resulting income gap has left me facing eviction, power disconnection, and internet shutoff simultaneously.

Here's why that matters beyond just housing: without a home I lose my job. Without my job I lose my insurance. Without insurance I lose access to medications that keep me functional. This isn't a spiral I can pull myself out of once it starts.

I've called every local resource available — United Way, Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul. Every door was closed. I can't qualify for a loan because the leave shows as gaps in my deposit history. I've done everything right and I'm still here asking strangers for help because that's what this country does to people who work hard and get sick.
