  • Skin graft update!

    Updates!!

Jacob had his skin graft surgery last Wednesday on his hand and forearm! I forgot to update, woops! That procedure was frustrating for him because they had to take 2 grafts from his thigh and it was very painful for the first few days. He continued to work hard and increased his stamina with walking and has some muscle movement in his foot that previously had none. He still walks with an impaired gait, but with PT, they hope to see this continue to improve.

This week was filled with increased stomach upset and he ended up losing his feeding tube as a result. On a positive, the last couple days have been better.

Today he went back to the OR and they took off the wound vac off of his arm and looked at his graft. Overall it looks good, even though it is fragile. There are a few areas that haven't taken immediately, but they believe they will close during the healing process.

They did not have to replace the wound vac so this means NO MORE TUBES!

They have moved to dressings that need to be changed every 7 days for both his arm at the graft site and leg at the donor site.

His surgeons think he is clear to start OT on the hand. Thus far they have been working on walking and his right leg that were impacted by the brain injury from lack of oxygen.

We still don't have a clear picture of when we will be returning home, but hopefully we will have answers in the next few days.

My hope is this weekend, but that is only a hope.

When we return he will continue to have wound care and ongoing therapy.

    More updates to come!

Thank you all so very much for the support!
Jacob was able to walk outside this week on the unit and very much enjoyed his first breath of fresh air in over a month! Here is a pic.

    Skin graft update!

About this fundraiser

Jacob suffered a cardiac arrest with some major complications. After doing what they could locally he was transferred to a larger city with more resources. Unfortunately that means His family, Kayla, Lucas, Ansel, and Dusty are displaced while they continue to support his recovery. It is expensive to stay and eat there and it's expected to be at least another 4 to 6 weeks at the current hospital with the unknown after. Anything helps to keep them afloat as medical bills also start pouring in.
