About this fundraiser

On the evening of August 28th, Shane experienced a devastating accident that changed his life in an instant. While at home, he fell from the back porch and sustained severe spinal injuries. He was airlifted to OSU Medical Center, where doctors performed emergency surgery to stabilize his spine — fusing vertebrae from C2 to F1 with 12 screws and 32 staples.

The days that followed were filled with uncertainty, pain, and fear. But through it all, Shane has shown strength and determination. He’s begun to regain some movement in his arms and legs, and recently was able to sit in a wheelchair and leave his hospital room for the first time — a huge milestone in his recovery.

He is currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation at Dodd Hall, where his care team is working tirelessly to help him regain as much mobility and independence as possible. His journey is just beginning, and the road ahead will be long and challenging.

As Shane prepares for the next phase of recovery, his family is facing the reality of adapting their home and lifestyle to meet his new needs. This includes:

  • Renovating the bathroom to include a wheelchair-accessible shower
  • Building ramps for safe entry and exit
  • Potentially acquiring a vehicle that can accommodate his wheelchair

These changes are essential to ensure Shane can return home safely and continue his recovery surrounded by loved ones.

We’re asking for your support — whether through a donation, a share, or a kind word — to help ease the financial burden on Shane and his family.

His wife Sandy has been by his side every step of the way, and while she prepares to return to work, the emotional and financial strain is immense.
Shane may never return to the life he had before, but with your help, he can build a new one filled with hope, dignity, and possibility.
