About this fundraiser

Shoichiro Kamata is a determined individual with a dream of attending the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His hard work and dedication have paid off, as he has been accepted into UCLA for the upcoming Fall term to pursue a dual degree in Linguistics and Computer Science. Currently a highly motivated student at Lane Community College, Shoichiro is ready to embark on this new chapter in his academic journey at UCLA.

Getting accepted into UCLA has been a result of Shoichiro's relentless efforts while balancing volunteer commitments. He has maintained an impressive GPA of 4.27, all while serving as a senator in the student government and holding the position of vice president in the esteemed Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) organization.

Unfortunately, Shoichiro's father, who was originally planning to support his studies at UCLA, has been unemployed since 2022. To make matters worse, his father underwent heart surgery to address a serious health issue and is the sole breadwinner for their family and is unable to return to work. Shoichiro's mother is also doing her best to contribute towards the cost of his education, but their combined resources are insufficient to cover the tuition fees. Furthermore, Shoichiro's non-permanent residency status in the United States restricts him from accessing financial aid and limits his employment opportunities.

As a result of these challenging circumstances, Shoichiro is considering abandoning his dream of attending UCLA. The remaining cost of studying at UCLA for the next two years amounts to $140,000, a sum that exceeds what he can afford from his existing savings. We kindly request your support in helping Shoichiro realize his dream of providing better education for young people, particularly those facing poverty. The support we receive from this campaign will help Shoichiro afford his first year at UCLA and focus on securing an internship that can help him support himself financially. By contributing to his crowdfunding campaign, you will not only enable him to pursue his academic aspirations but also empower him to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Thank you for your invaluable support.

All profits will go towards Shoichiro's nonresident cost of attendance.

If you prefer to use Venmo and offset the cost of crowdfunding fees, you can send money to @sho1ro_jpn
