I am home 🏠 Jakie, Mack and I got to reunite!

I arrived late last night. Today was a full day of appointments and getting needed items done. Home through the weekend. Did a switch with his sister Shelby and was able to give my mom a break to be at home.

Bud is in Rehab and doing well. Today he got to go outside for first time in 6 weeks! Was able to get a clean shave and hair cut by his sis!

I will be heading back next week, and with hope a to break him free, bringing him home!

We will have more trips for care and next steps with oncology in July and August. He has a ways to go, but its progress to getting home to continue healing.

    Big week! 💕

April 29th Marks a Very Important Day, Mayo Clinic

"God created us to thrive on encouragement from others."

Today, our Hileman family will begin sharing the journey of our favorite person, "Bud." As many know, Cancer had been the new normal, and a way of life when he was diagnosed in 2018 with colorectal cancer.

In 2020, he was cancer-free following a successful surgery to remove the tumor on April 29th (take note of the date today - April 29).

In 2022, after pain in the pelvic area, a large mass had metastasized and grew into a significant tumor in the pelvis and developed within the lungs.

For the last year and a half, he has been battling the disease that continues to fight back. With a team of IU Health Cancer experts, everyone felt it best to seek next steps from Mayo Clinic.

In December 2024, Bud's case was reviewed and approved by Mayo Cancer specialists, a team of experts in Rochester, MN. In early January his medical application was accepted to proceed with a very aggressive approach to perform surgery. Today, we are in Minnesota for Bud to receive the best care from some of the best experts in the world who will support the fight to save Bud's life.

As we move through these next few days, even months, this site will be a source for updates and the progress steps taken.

Help me encourage him, as the past has been challenging and, the next few months will be a battle he has never had to face.

Thank you for all the love and support. Please forgive us if we are slow to respond to your well wishes however, know they mean the world to us both. Over the next couple of days, we are finding what rest we can as he prepares for two major surgeries. We are far away from home and away from loved ones.

As a faithful family, we ask for prayer, positivity, energy, and hope. Encouragement is going to get our family and Bud through.

With lots of love!
