​My Journey to Becoming an Educator

​Teaching and art have always been my passions. For years, I’ve worked toward earning my degree in Art Education so I can inspire the next generation of students through creative expression. I’ve balanced long hours, coursework, and field placements, pouring my heart into every step of the process.

​The Unfair Setback

​During my recent field placement, I ran into an impossible conflict between my university course requirements and real-world privacy laws. One of my required courses mandated submitting video recordings of my classroom teaching. However, the school district strictly prohibited filming students to comply with FERPA privacy laws and district safety mandates.

​I prioritized protecting the safety and privacy of those middle school students and adhered to district laws. Unfortunately, despite documenting these official restrictions and communicating transparently with my program, I received a failing mark for not providing the video footage. This single issue derailed my standing in the program, putting my progress and future certification on hold.

​Moving Forward & Next Steps

​I refuse to give up on my goal of becoming a certified teacher. To keep moving forward, I am appealing the decision and transitioning my credits so I can complete my degree without starting over.

​However, dealing with this unexpected setback has created financial hurdles—including credit transfer fees, tuition adjustments, and unexpected educational expenses required to finalize my degree and stay on track.
