About this fundraiser

Laurie courageously battled severe sepsis that left her on life support. In what her family considers a miracle, she woke on her own just as they had made the difficult decision to let her go and place her in God’s hands.

Her recovery came with significant challenges. Laurie faced limited heart function, liver damage, end-stage kidney disease, and the loss of her ability to walk.

A few years later, her daughter Amber and her husband, Jim, brought Laurie from Illinois to Kansas to care for her. Amber, a hospice caregiver, and Jim are devoted to serving others in their community, supporting both special needs and hospice efforts, while raising four children, including one with significant special needs.

Through great sacrifice, Amber ensured her mother received the best care possible. Over time, Laurie made meaningful progress. She regained her ability to walk and speak, worked with multiple specialists, and eventually achieved a lifelong goal: living independently in her own apartment.

On March 15, Laurie unexpectedly passed away after suffering a heart attack. Though her health had been fragile, her passing came as a shock to those who loved her.

This fund has been created to support Jim & Amber Rosenthal as they honor Amber’s mother, Laurie, and navigate the emotional and financial responsibilities that follow. After navigating recent financial strain, they would be deeply grateful for any support—whether through assistance or heartfelt prayers. Their family, especially their child with special needs who shared a close bond with Laurie, feels this loss deeply.

Thank you for your kindness, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
