IN THE WORDS OF HER SON JORDAN

Cancer affects more than just cells; it affects the mind, the spirit, and the will of a person. Back in March, my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes. From that moment, everything changed. I watched my mother transform before my eyes. She went from working every day to fighting tirelessly for her life.

The journey has been emotional, overwhelming, and constant, a test of strength, faith, and love that touches everyone around her. It’s a scary feeling when things are beyond your control. You’re constantly being told what to do and what not to do, hearing multiple interpretations of how best to treat her diagnosis, all while trying to hold on to hope.

Yesterday, doctors performed a successful double mastectomy, removing the affected areas. There’s still a long road ahead with weekly doses of radiation, but this marks a step forward towards a sense of normalcy. The support my mother has received from her friends, coworkers, and family has not gone unnoticed.

I love you. Jessica Morris
