OUR VISION

Adoption Centre Vision: Where Hearts and Paws Find Each Other

There are never enough resources to take all the animals that get referred to Karuna. By far, more dogs than any other animal find their way to their safe place, often needing extensive vet care and lots of love. Once these dogs are rehabilitated they need to be found their furever home with loving families. To support this vision Karuna is currently in the process of finding suitable premises in Eureka/Arcata to set up a shop/store front where this meeting between dog and prospective new family can take place. This is where we need your support to help us fund the lease and remodel suitable premises where these adoptions can occur.

At Karuna Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, every adoption is more than a placement — it’s a sacred meeting between souls. Our goal is to make every adoption a calm, heart-centered experience — one that honors both the journey of our animals and the hopes of the people who welcome them home.

PRE-LOVED TREASURES

To support the adoption centre and rescue, we will be adding Karuna Treasures our pre-loved thrift boutique where every item has a story and every purchase has purpose. From revamped furniture and curious little finds, we will stock the store with quirky treasures whose sales will help feed, heal, and shelter the animals who call Karuna home. It’s a circle of giving - you find something you love, an animal gets the care they need, and together we keep compassion in motion.

COMMUNITY MATTERS

The Critter Bites Café: Where Compassion and Community Come Together

Part of our vision for the adoption centre is to include a drop in Café, where you’re invited to slow down, sip something delicious, and connect with friends, neighbors, and maybe your future four-legged family member. Families can meet and bond with adoptable dogs in a calm, heartwarming environment that feels like home. Whether you come for the coffee, the community, or the cuddles, you’ll leave knowing that every cup you share helps support the animals of Karuna and the kindness that brings us all together.

ABOUT KARUNA

Karuna Animal Rescue and Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity nestled on 500 acres in Kneeland. We provide a safe haven where animals once broken by neglect, starvation, abuse, or abandonment can finally rest, heal, and remember what it means to trust again. Every animal deserves safety, love, and the simple joy of being.

Most of our residents arrive frightened and fragile. Here, they receive the medical care they need — from vet visits and vaccinations to spay/neuters and medications — but just as importantly, they receive unconditional love, safety, and time. At Karuna, healing happens on their schedule. Each animal is given the freedom to find peace at their own pace.

And we watch them blossom. Horses who once flinched now gallop across the pastures; pigs and roosters who were left behind now bask side by side in the sun; dogs who knew only fear now wag their tails in joy. Some stay with us forever, while others move on to loving forever homes. Every goodbye is bittersweet — but always joyful.
