Here is a breakdown about our moms journey so far and how we got where we are today.

On Wednesday July 26th, mom was taken to the hospital with severe back and side pain. They found out she had an abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture and needed emergency surgery as she was bleeding out internally. We were told she probably wouldn‘t survive this as most people do not. We all know she is strong and she made it through the aorta repair, that surgery went great, she spent a few days in the ICU and recovered well. Through the testing they did to see what was originally wrong they noticed a mass on her lung, thus this lead to further testing after she got out of the hospital.

The tests confirmed on August 14th that it was Adenocarcinoma Non Small Cell Lung Cancer. We found out today, August 16th that it has metastasized and is now confirmed in her bones and colon. They are wanting to do further tests to see where exactly the cancer already is and stated that she might need to do chemo/radiation. They are currently doing a lot of tests to get all the information so we may best assess the condition and situation. We have set up a couple of great things to help everyone stay up to date and if anyone wants to contribute to helping her through this difficult time.

Our next steps are to meet with an Oncologist at the Cancer Care Center, get a PET scan as well as a brain MRI to check the cancer’s progression.  We are also contemplating a 2nd opinion from the Moffitt Cancer Center.
