Two teenage brothers stepped up to help raise their younger siblings when life got hard. Now they need a little help themselves.
I’m sharing this story anonymously to protect a family’s privacy, but I promise you these two boys are the real deal.
They are 16 and 17 years old—true Irish twins—and two of the most selfless young men you could ever meet. Over the last 6–7 years their family has endured significant challenges that forced them to grow up far faster than most teenagers. Instead of focusing only on school, friends, and sports, they quietly stepped into the role of helpers and protectors for their younger siblings.
The 17-year-old is quiet and reserved, with a perfectly timed dry sense of humor that sneaks up on you. The 16-year-old is vibrant, funny, and the kind of kid who lights up every room he enters. Despite experiencing a great deal of trauma in their young lives, both boys continue to show incredible resilience, kindness, and responsibility.
Last weekend brought another difficult setback.
The older brother’s car—the only reliable transportation he had to get to work and help get his three younger siblings where they need to go—literally fell apart. At the same time, the 16-year-old had been working hard to raise money for an ROTC trip to Colorado that he earned the opportunity to attend.
When we thought things couldn’t get much worse, a difficult conflict at home escalated, and the 16-year-old is now staying with extended family who love him dearly but are stretching their own resources to care for an additional child.
Both boys are trying so hard to move forward. They’ve taken jobs, stepped up for their family, and carried responsibilities well beyond their years. Right now they just need a little breathing room and the support of a community.
The goal of this fundraiser is $5,000, which will go toward:
• Purchasing a reliable used car for the 17-year-old so he can continue working and help transport his younger siblings
• Covering the cost of the 16-year-old’s ROTC trip to Colorado that he has worked so hard to earn
No photos or names are being shared out of respect for the family’s privacy, but every dollar will go directly toward helping these two boys keep moving forward.
If you’re able to contribute, even a small amount helps more than you know. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this fundraiser could help it reach someone who can.
Sometimes a community can change the direction of a young person’s life with a simple act of kindness. Let’s give these two brothers the break they truly deserve.
