On 4/11/2026 at approximately 1130am my son-in-law Gary Futch, his 27 year old brother Nick and his mother Cassandra were heading west in 2 vehicles in McKinley County.  They had pulled over to the shoulder to check out low pressure warning on the tire.  Nick got out of his vehicle (parked behind Gary) when an 18 wheeler side swiped his vehicle pushing it into Garys vehicle and pinning Nick underneath the vehicle.  Neither Gary nor his mother were injured physically.  Mentally is another story.

The 18 wheeler never stopped or slowed down.

Local authorities responded and an ambulance transported Nick to a local hospital and then he was airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital.  Nick suffered massive head trauma and crushing bodily injuries.  He passed away less than an hour later.
 

The expenses to send his body back to Louisiana, casket, funeral, hospital and medical transport are staggering.  Nick and his mother were struggling to make ends meet and his passing will take everything they had saved and it is still not going to be enough.
