About this fundraiser

On the evening of March 24th, our resilient and loving father, Wendel Davidson, unexpectedly passed away after being discharged from the hospital on March 22nd, despite being in severe pain. He was expecting to retire in two years, wanting to travel, visit friends and family, and soak up the sun in the Bahamas. Wendel was a loving husband to his wife, Waheeda, and a caring father to his two children, Mikaila and Meghan.

Our dad was a stalwart and sharp-witted soul who always found a way to accomplish what he wanted to do, no matter the odds. He grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, the second eldest of four siblings. In his 20s he moved to Long Beach after having received his degree in Oceanography in Florida, having wanted to pursue a second degree in civil engineering. After graduating, he was soon employed within Caltrans, where he worked for over 30 years as a civil engineer. He took great pride in his work, always willing to share knowledge of his job with us whenever he could- he truly did love his job.

Wendel was loved by many.  His strong, hospitable personality was enough to put anyone at ease; his smile served as a reminder that no matter the situation, he’d always be here to care for us and protect us. He was the pillar of strength within our family, he worked incredibly hard to provide for us as the sole breadearner. To say we are in deep mourning would be an understatement. Wendel touched the lives of countless people, whether they were people he worked with, friends, or family.

There will be a celebration of life for Wendel at a later date. Any donations provided will help go towards his funeral, bills and necessities for his family, and any other necessary expenses. Anything would be appreciated as we work towards both honoring his life and moving forward through this period of immense grief and uncertainty.
