  • A message from Lisa

    Beloved friends and family,

This past week has been surreal and overwhelming for me and Sandy's family. I still can’t believe that Sandy is gone. I fully expect for him to walk up to the table, smile playfully, and say, “what? You fell for that?”

I’ve also been wrapped in so much love and supported by my family and friends here in Los Angeles as I’ve been dealing with the reality my brain refuses to believe. Sandy's family is absolutely heartbroken. Phil and Ev have lost their "baby" boy, and Alex has lost his twin. Our four kitties are so confused about where their favorite human is.

The real point of this message though is to express our overwhelming gratitude. Your generosity and your heartfelt messages have been a great comfort during this time. The knowledge that this safety net is there, woven by each one of you, is such a comfort and has made some choices about next steps much easier. We are deeply moved by your care and your love for Sandy, me and his family.

I know everyone is eager to know details about when and where we will be celebrating Sandy’s life. We hope to nail down those details soon and I promise when we do, we will be notifying everyone here, via email, and via social media.

Of behalf of Phillip, Evelyn, Alex and myself, thank you for everything.

About this fundraiser

Hello Friends and Family,

As we begin the year, we say goodbye to a great and loving human being.  To say that this was unexpected is an understatement, and as Lisa begins the daunting task of sorting out and managing Sandy's end-of-life wishes, the costs are adding up.

We can absolutely help.

These funds or koden (香典) will go directly toward paying for end-of-life services, bi-coastal celebrations of life (because he was loved coast to coast), their subsequent travel and hotel costs, unexpected administrative costs, a buffer for time off work, and potential legal fees.

End of life, as many of us know, can be a nightmare to navigate, with many hidden triggers and stress points.  Lisa is doing her absolute best by Sandy.  And now we can do our best for her.

Thank you for your generosity, your love, and your care.  More updates are coming as the details are cemented into place.  If you have any pictures you'd like to share of Sandy, a photo upload link will be provided shortly (the previous link was a little buggy.  Apologies.). We ask the friends limit themselves to five images, mostly because there are so very many of you.  This is a good problem to have, as Sandy and Lisa are so deeply loved.

-Felicia (friend of Sandy and Lisa)

Post Script: Please note that neither Lisa nor the Lee or Hasegawa families would personally reach out to you and ask for funds.  Please be circumspect as scammers do unfortunately target grieving friends and families following a loss.  This fundraiser was set up with Lisa's consent and with the help of friends looking to lighten her load.  If you have any questions, I can be reached directly at [email protected].
