About this fundraiser

Imagine losing the only home you've ever known, with no warning, no chance to fight. That’s the reality for a 23-year-old autistic woman who is about to be evicted due to a series of legal missteps and misunderstandings beyond her control.

In October 2021, her beloved grandfather, fell behind on property taxes while in hospice care. He passed away in December of that year. When the next round of taxes become due in October 2022 there was no mention of any outstanding balance or a tax sale.

In November 2022, without the family's knowledge, the property was auctioned off due to unpaid 2021 taxes. Yet even in January 2023, when they paid the taxes for 2022, there was still no word of this sale or any pending issues. The same thing happened in 2023—taxes were paid in full, in person, and yet no one told them that the property no longer legally belonged to them.

It wasn't until February 2024, when the new owner claimed the deed from the tax sale, that the family learned the heartbreaking truth. Now, they’ve received a letter telling them they must vacate by the end of September 2024.

This property is not just land—it’s been the only home this young autistic woman has ever known. Her step-grandfather, who has cared for her since she was born, is devastated. He paid the taxes in good faith, completely unaware of the legal issues due to a lack of communication from officials. He’s at a loss, believing there's nothing more to be done. But we believe differently.

To make matters worse, her biological mother, who possessed the grandfather's will, refused to show it to anyone for over a year and a half after his death, and she still hasn't shown all of it. The will names the autistic granddaughter as the rightful heir to the property, but because probate was never filed, the home remains legally vulnerable.

Time is running out. We need your help to raise funds for legal assistance, property preservation, and any associated costs to stop this unjust eviction. Please donate today and give this autistic young woman the chance to keep her home—a place of safety, stability, and the only world she’s ever known.

Every dollar counts. Your support could make all the difference. Let’s come together to fight for her future.
