  • Hospital Time Coming to an End

We have begun making plans for what it looks like when Scotty comes home! There are a few options available including Frazier acute rehab and a temporary stay at his mom’s while I get the house put together for him if they discharge him more quickly than we expect. So much of this experience has been outside of our control, and quite a lot of hurry up and wait, and then needing to make choices very quickly. There was no reason to think the transition out of the hospital would be different!

Part of what makes this so up in the air is how well Scotty is doing with his physical therapy. He used his walker to get all the way around the nurse’s station today, which is a huge accomplishment! He definitely has skills, strength, and endurance that he could build at Frazier, but it might not end up being the path we take.

On my end, I haven’t been home in nearly 3 weeks and have a back log of laundry, rescheduling appointments I had to cancel, figuring out how I’m getting to and from work from here on out, and getting all the supplies necessary for Scotty to be at home. I have to buy and build a bed, get linens for the bed, and make sure he has a walker, and other personal supplies he needs to be able to live at our lovely home that has SEVERAL staircases. Not an easy abode for a person with a badly broken leg and a full knee replacement.

Scotty made it through a traumatic surprise broken leg, a cancer scare, a major surgery, and now we are preparing for whatever comes next. The people here at UofL have been great. There are people we will both miss seeing, but we are both very much looking forward to transitioning to home.

About this fundraiser

My amazing brother, Scotty Tedrow, recently suffered a serious fall while walking his dogs and broke his leg just below the knee. What initially seemed like a simple fracture turned out to be far more complex — an X-ray revealed a large tumorous mass growing inside his bone, which caused a pathological fracture of his tibia.

He was taken by ambulance from Evansville to UofL Hospital, where he has been since October 19th. After five long days of painful tests and anxious waiting, we finally received some relief — the biopsies confirmed the tumor is non-cancerous. Scotty has been diagnosed with an aggressive but benign Giant Cell Tumor, a rare condition that affects roughly 1 in a million people.

This week, Scotty will undergo major surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct his knee and leg. His recovery will be long and challenging, involving both in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation over the coming months. Unfortunately, this will also bring a significant loss of income for Scotty and Seph during his recovery.

While their main focus right now is on healing — both physically and mentally — I created this fundraiser to give friends, family, and our community a way to support them during this difficult time. Every contribution, message, and share means the world.

If you’d prefer, another wonderful way to show support is by booking a future appointment at Fox & Crow with Scotty or Seph once they’re back to work.

The outpouring of love for Scotty has been incredible, and our family is deeply grateful for every bit of encouragement and kindness sent his way 🖤
