Support for Kimberly Lingenfelter: A Family in Crisis After Tragedy

In October 2024, Kimberly Lingenfelter’s life was torn apart when her husband, Adam, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident outside his workplace in Havre de Grace. Adam, a hardworking and dedicated father, balanced two jobs, including his role as a laundry assistant at Lorien Nursing Home in Havre de Grace, to provide for his family. 

Now, Kimberly is left to care for their two young children, Talena (6 years old) and Matthew (17 months old), while facing overwhelming financial and emotional challenges. 

The process of obtaining survivor benefits has been riddled with red tape and frustrating delays. Despite her efforts, Kimberly has not received the support she needs from the Social Security Administration, leaving her family in a precarious financial situation months after her husband's murder. These ongoing delays are taking a significant toll on her emotional and financial well-being, as she works tirelessly to care for her children while navigating the complex system. 

Kimberly's situation has become even more complicated by the fact that the family vehicle, which is essential for transporting her children to their medical appointments and daily needs, is in Adam’s name. This has created a series of issues with the car loan and insurance, in addition she is still struggling to stay current on the payments. Although Kim has received some community support and some from family, she remains behind on rent, utilities, and other essential bills, with mounting debts threatening her ability to provide for her family’s basic needs. 

As a mother of two children with special needs, Kimberly’s emotional and physical resources are stretched thin. She is doing her best to manage her grief while providing a stable, loving environment for Talena and Matthew, but the financial stress is overwhelming.
