About this fundraiser

Bringing “The Melvin Invention” to Life: Empowering Middle Schoolers Through Theater

Project Summary:

We are seeking funding to bring The Melvin Invention, an engaging and relatable live theater performance, to our school. This in-school tour performance will introduce our middle school scholars to a heartwarming and hilarious story that promotes creativity, individuality, and the power of self-acceptance. The total cost for this educational enrichment experience is $900.

Purpose and Need:

Middle school is a time of immense social and emotional development. Many students struggle with self-identity, peer pressure, and confidence. The Melvin Invention speaks directly to these experiences. It tells the story of Max and Abby, two inventive students who use a 3D printer to create the ultimate cool classmate—Melvin—only to discover that being genuine is far cooler than any invention.

By hosting this live, professional performance on our school campus, we aim to:

- Encourage social-emotional learning through storytelling

- Foster empathy and inclusivity among students

- Promote the value of creativity and self-confidence

- Provide access to the performing arts, especially for students who may not otherwise experience live theater

Project Details:

Play Title: The Melvin Invention

Audience: Grades 6–8

Performance Type: In-school tour (performed by professional actors)

Themes: Creativity, identity, fitting in, self-worth

Total Cost: $900 (includes performance fees, travel, and materials)

Impact on Students:

This project will directly reach approximately 350 middle school students, providing them with an enriching cultural experience and sparking meaningful conversations about what it means to be "cool" and authentic. The show will tie into SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) standards, classroom discussions, and our school’s focus on character education.

Closing Statement:

By funding this project, you are investing in our students’ social growth, emotional health, and love for the arts. You are helping us create a moment they will not only enjoy but also remember and learn from. Thank you for helping us show our students that being themselves is truly the coolest thing of all.
