Español| I’m Gabriela, and at 38, I’ve always been proud to work hard and handle my own bills here on 14th Street. But last week, a sudden and terrifying health emergency completely ruined everything I’ve worked for. I suffered a severe case of contaminated food poisoning that rapidly progressed into a dangerous systemic kidney infection. I spent four agonizing days in the emergency room and high-dependency care fighting high fevers and dehydration. While the hospital finally cleared me to leave, the financial aftermath is absolutely devastating. As an hourly worker, missing a full week of shifts means my next paycheck is virtually non-existent. To make things worse, my employer already had to fill my slots, leaving me temporarily stranded without any income. My out-of-pocket ER deductibles, lab work, and specialized prescriptions total $5,900, and my utilities and rent are due in less than a week. I am raising $5,900 to settle these pressing medical debts and keep my family housed while I recover my physical strength and get back on the schedule.
