Cancer picked the wrong bitch - But Damn it’s Expensive
If you know me, you know that asking for help is probably one of my least favorite things to do. I’d much rather be the person helping someone else.
But here I am.
On September 24, 2026, at 5:34 PM, I got the phone call that divided my life into before and after.
I have breast cancer.
I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), stage 0. We caught it early—something I will be forever grateful for—but “early” doesn’t mean free, easy, or not terrifying.
There are appointments. Surgery. Radiation. Genetic testing. Follow-ups. Medications and supplies. Copays and deductibles. Time away from work. Travel and all the random expenses nobody thinks about until cancer suddenly moves into your life without being fucking invited.
And right now, I don’t know exactly what all of those costs are going to look like.
That’s what scares me.
I’m already trying to wrap my head around having cancer. I’m trying to prepare myself for treatment and for whatever comes next. Having to wonder how I’m going to absorb the financial hit on top of everything else is a weight I wasn’t prepared for.
So I’m doing something that’s incredibly difficult for me:
I’m asking for help.
Money raised here will help with my cancer-related medical expenses, treatment costs, insurance deductibles and copays, prescriptions and recovery supplies, transportation and other expenses associated with appointments and treatment, and help cover everyday expenses if treatment requires me to miss work.
Some of those expenses are already beginning, and they’ll continue as I move through surgery, recovery, radiation and follow-up care. That’s why I’m asking now, even though I don’t yet know exactly what the final number will be.
If you’re able to donate, please know that I will be more grateful than I can probably put into words.
If you can’t donate, please don’t feel guilty. Sharing this page, sending some encouragement, checking in on me, or simply following along with my journey means something too.
I have an incredible squad of glitter pooping unicorns around me, and I’m learning that maybe being strong doesn’t always mean doing everything by yourself.
Sometimes it means being scared as hell and asking your people to stand beside you anyway.
I hate that I have to ask.
But I want to spend my energy fighting cancer—not lying awake at night wondering how I’m going to pay for fighting cancer.
So here we go.
I have cancer. But cancer doesn’t have me.
Fuck you, cancer. 🖕
You picked the wrong bitch.
And from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me kick its ass. 💜
