Help a Child Learn to Read 📚
One Child. Twenty Weeks. A Stronger Foundation for Reading.
Fundraising Goal: $1,200
Every child deserves the opportunity to become a confident reader, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
My name is Roxana Gonzalez, M.S., CCC-SLP. I am a licensed, ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologist and founder of TalkReadGrow.
Throughout my career, I have worked with children experiencing speech, language, and communication difficulties. I have also seen how challenges with foundational literacy skills can affect a child’s confidence, classroom participation, and academic development.
I created the TalkReadGrow Early Reading Scholarship Fund to help make individualized reading instruction accessible to children whose families may not otherwise be able to afford additional support.
Who Will Benefit?
This fundraiser will sponsor one child between the ages of 3 and 9 (Pre-K through 3rd grade) who demonstrates a need for foundational literacy instruction and whose family faces financial barriers to accessing private tutoring.
The scholarship is designed for early readers who need additional support developing skills such as:
- Recognizing letters and connecting letters to sounds.
- Identifying and manipulating sounds in spoken words.
- Blending sounds to read words.
- Developing early decoding and word recognition skills.
- Building confidence and independence as beginning readers.
Instruction will be individualized according to the child’s developmental level and learning needs.
How Will Donations Be Used?
Our goal is to raise $1,200 to provide one child with 20 weeks of individualized virtual reading instruction.
The scholarship includes:
- 40 individualized reading sessions
- Two 30-minute sessions per week
- 20 weeks of consistent instruction
- An initial foundational reading skills check
- Ongoing progress monitoring
- A summary of the child’s progress at the conclusion of the scholarship
All scholarship sessions will be provided virtually through TalkReadGrow.
Donations will fund the cost of instruction at TalkReadGrow’s regular rate of $30 per 30-minute session.
Your Contribution Makes a Difference
$30 = One reading session
$60 = Two reading sessions
$120 = Four reading sessions
$240 = Eight reading sessions
$1,200 = One complete 20-week scholarship
Every contribution brings us closer to providing a child with consistent, individualized reading support.
How Will the Scholarship Recipient Be Selected?
Transparency and fairness are important to this initiative.
Families interested in receiving the scholarship will complete a brief application describing their child’s reading needs and financial circumstances.
Applicants will be considered based on:
Financial Need: Families who experience financial barriers to obtaining supplemental reading instruction.
Foundational Literacy Needs: Children who demonstrate difficulties developing age-appropriate early reading skills.
Family Commitment: Families who can reasonably commit to participating in two virtual sessions weekly throughout the scholarship period.
Eligible applicants may also participate in a brief foundational reading skills screening to help determine whether TalkReadGrow’s services are appropriate for their needs.
The scholarship recipient will be selected using consistent eligibility criteria, with priority given to children demonstrating both financial need and a need for additional reading support.
When Are Funds Needed?
I am seeking donations now to begin providing scholarship-supported instruction as soon as the fundraising goal is reached and an eligible recipient is selected.
My hope is to provide early support during a critical period of literacy development, when children are building the foundational skills needed for future reading success.
Why This Matters to Me
As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I understand the important connection between spoken language, sound awareness, and learning to read.
I believe children who struggle with early reading skills deserve access to individualized instruction before those difficulties become more significant.
For families facing financial challenges, private tutoring may not be an affordable option.
Through this scholarship, I hope to remove that barrier for one child and provide the consistency, encouragement, and individualized instruction needed to support meaningful progress.
Although one scholarship may seem small, the opportunity it creates for one child and their family can be significant.
Thank You for Supporting a Young Reader!
Whether you contribute $10, $30, $100, or sponsor the entire scholarship, your generosity will help provide access to foundational reading instruction.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with friends, family, educators, and community organizations is another meaningful way to help.
Thank you for supporting this initiative and believing in the importance of early literacy.
One child. Twenty weeks. Forty opportunities to learn, practice, and grow.
