Gideon is 17 years old, a Senior at Huntsville High School, and a very loving big brother to his three younger siblings. He is passionate about cars, music and spending time with his friends. He is a very hard worker and always willing to give a helping hand. He loved his job working at Jim and Nick's BBQ and has been looking forward to graduating high school so he can become a welder. He had just completed his OSHA certifications when he was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, an extremely rare form of cancer in the soft tissue. Since finding out about his diagnosis, he has remained strong and he has only cared about how this was going to affect his friends and family rather than think about himself. The past 6 months, he has undergone weekly rounds of multiple different kinds of intense chemo, all while staying positive and uplifting for his loved ones. In July, he underwent an invasive surgery in the hopes of removing the tumor, however, it had grown around his rib cage, so he unfortunately ended up losing both a rib and a nerve that traveled all the way down his left leg. He is now faced with more chemo but also radiation. During this journey, he has missed out on many cherished moments that most high schoolers would be devastated to miss, such as his junior prom, summer break with his friends, his final swim team season and the start of senior year because he has been either in the hospital or in quarantine. He has never complained or asked for any pity, a smile has never left his face, and he continues to fight. He is an example of strength and bravery for all of his friends, siblings, and even the adults who watch him take on this massive battle that is unimaginable.
