I accidentally parked in a handicap space at my apartment complex, and my car was towed. Before anyone judges me, I want to say that I would never intentionally park in a handicap spot. It was an honest mistake. There wasn’t a handicap sign in front of the parking space, so I truly didn’t realize it was designated as one. When I tried explaining that, they told me there was a sign. I went back later and found it, but it’s mounted on the building, not directly in front of the space, and it’s not something I noticed when I parked.

I’m a single mom of three, and I’m also caring for my nephew now. I don’t receive any assistance, and I’m already barely making ends meet each month. The towing and storage fees are more than I can afford, and every day the cost keeps going up. At this point, I’m going to lose the car I worked so hard to get.

That car is how I work and get my kids where they need to go, make it to appointments, run errands, and keep our lives together. Losing it would be devastating for my family and I’m sure it would start the downward spiral of everything to where I can’t control it !

Has anyone ever successfully fought or contested a tow like this? Is there anything I can do, or any resources or organizations that might be able to help? I would truly appreciate any advice.

This is the second time my car has got towed from my apartments and I barely got it back the first time ( the first time was due to my 30 day temporary sticker fell off the window where it was taped. Even though it was right there and valid and you could tell it had fallen down they still wouldn’t give me the car without paying the tow fee)
