Joe arrived to his home in Kuna from his office in downtown Boise the evening of September 24th, 2026, and he looked forward to a ride on his e-scooter before dinner.
It’s not known what happened during Joe’s ride, other than at sometime between 6:40 and 7:20 p.m., there was an accident at Meridian and Hubbard roads that caused him to fall from or be thrown off his scooter.
His wife Becky received a call from a sheriff’s deputy just before 7:30 p.m. saying that Joe fell, he may have hit his head, and he would be transported to St. Alphonsus hospital to get checked out.
Becky didn’t know until late that night how serious Joe’s accident and injuries were. She was shocked and devastated to hear Joe’s care team talk about brain bleeds, severe and traumatic brain injury, and life-saving emergency surgery.
Joe needed and survived two brain surgeries on September 25th, which was Becky’s and his 16th wedding anniversary.
Joe has remained unconscious since his accident. If he is able to survive his injuries, he is expected to have a long road to recovery (possibly as long as 12-18 months) with lengthy hospital and acute-care facility stays. Joe’s doctors say that he is likely to have cognitive and memory loss and some level of long-term disability. Unfortunately, that means his position at the cathedral will have to be filled so this fundraiser will help Becky as Joe's income is going away.
Joe worked in the newspaper industry for more than 20 years and then ran his own videography and photography business for 14 years, before beginning his third career as Director of Parish Operations at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Boise in June 2026. He is also a member of the OCIA team at Holy Apostles in Meridian and previously served on the Kuna Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
The goal for this fundraiser is threefold:
1 - Meet Becky's immediate needs due to the loss of Joe's wages.
2 - Create a fund to cover medical expenses in preparation of Joe being in the hospital/extended care for potentially a year plus.
3- Prayer! Endless prayer for Joe to heal and respond to the care he is receiving. Wisdom for his doctors and his care team. Strength for Becky, Joe's parents in Ohio and Becky's family in Portland.
