Wendell Hollis is facing a health emergency that no one expects to navigate alone. Over the past few months, his health has gone through many ups and downs. He's been in and out of intensive care, and doctors have determined he needs heart valve surgery, surgery that could save his life.

But there's a critical complication. Before they can do the heart surgery, Wendell needs dental surgery to reduce infection risk. The problem is finding a surgeon who can do this safely and affordably. His current dental insurance won't cover the specialized care he needs with any reasonably close surgeons, so they're looking at $6,000 out of pocket for a procedure that's become a prerequisite for everything else.

Wendell in Bend Hospital

While Wendell has been in the hospital in Bend, our mom, Kim Hollis, has been driving 150 miles back and forth, sometimes multiple times a week, to be there with him, advocate for his care, and provide support during one of the scariest chapters of their lives. She's exhausted, she's worried, and she's absorbing costs for gas, meals, and everything else that comes with this kind of sustained medical crisis.

Wendell is also facing a 30-day rehabilitation stay to help him regain mobility and strength. The financial weight of all of this, the specialized surgery, the travel, the lost income from the work they normally do (even as partial retirees), is understandably trying for this couple who've always been independent and self-sufficient, living off-grid in Eastern Oregon with their chickens and dogs.

Wendell at home on the ranch

Throughout this journey, our family has been surrounded by an incredible community of people showing up with love, care, and support. We're deeply grateful for everyone who has stood by them and continues to hold them in their hearts during this time.

Your financial support will help them with:

  1. The specialized dental surgery ($6,000) that's necessary before his heart surgery can proceed
  2. Travel costs for the ongoing hospital trips and appointments
  3. Basic living expenses while they navigate this recovery

Those of you who know Kim and Wendell, know that they have always been the ones helping others. Right now, they need a hand, and we're asking if you can be part of their village.

This is about getting Wendell the care he needs to survive and recover. They deserve to focus on healing, not on how they'll pay for the medical care that could give them more years together.

&& a Heartfelt THANK YOU!!

We understand that these are trying times for everyone. The economic strain is real, and we know that financial support isn't always possible for every person. If you're unable to contribute financially, we are still deeply grateful for your prayers, your thoughts, and your willingness to share this with others who might be able to. Every prayer, every share, every message of encouragement means more than you know.

To those who are able to spare some financial support, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. When we all join forces, even $5 for a gallon of gas goes a long way (28 miles, to be exact😉). You're not just helping with a medical emergency. You're showing both Wendell and Kim that they're not alone in this. That matters more than words can say 🤍🙏🤍
