Give Loren and Tisha the Gift of Time ❤️
Some love stories begin in childhood and last a lifetime. My mom, Tisha, and my dad, Loren, have been together since they were just 14 years old. From the beginning, they were soulmates. They have weathered more ups and downs than most people experience in a lifetime, always finding their way through life together, hand in hand.
About 15 years ago, their world changed when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. Since then, he has faced remission, recurrence, and more battles than anyone should ever have to endure. Through every diagnosis and every setback, he has continued to fight with the strength, determination, and love that have always defined him.
On October 29, our family received the devastating news that my dad's cancer is now stage four, has spread throughout his body, and his prognosis is not good. The heartbreaking reality is that we don't know how much time he has left with us, or with the love of his life, Tisha. We are trying to navigate a future we never wanted to imagine while holding tightly to every moment we still have together.
For most of their lives, my dad has been the one taking care of my mom. He cooked for her, supported her, loved her, and made sure she was taken care of. In recent years, as cancer has taken more of a toll on his body and their lives, those roles have changed. My mom has been working seven days a week to help cover the costs of cancer care and make sure my dad has everything he needs.
Even while fighting cancer, my dad has never stopped dreaming. He has spent his time healing, fighting, staying busy, and working on something truly special: the cabin he and my mom always dreamed of having. He has poured his heart into building them a place of their own. An off-grid cabin tucked away in a quiet, peaceful setting where they could slow down, enjoy the life they've built together, and find comfort in the simple things.
It is the dream he worked so hard to create for the two of them.
But as my dad becomes more ill, maintaining that dream is becoming increasingly difficult. Their cabin relies on generators, and with winter approaching, keeping it warm, powered, and livable will be a tremendous challenge. This winter will be unlike any other. My dad will need increasing care, and my mom is facing the heartbreaking reality of caring for him while trying to keep their home running and manage the financial burden that comes with this devastating diagnosis.
We are asking for help to give my parents the comfort, stability, and time together they deserve.
Our goal is to raise funds to help my parents through the difficult months ahead. We hope to make their off-grid cabin more sustainable through the winter with a larger, more reliable generator and solar panels, while also helping with travel expenses for my dad's medical appointments in Portland and other living expenses.
More than anything, we want to give my mom the ability to step away from working seven days a week and be home with my dad. After a lifetime of loving and caring for one another, they deserve to spend this time together without the constant worry of how they will afford the necessities of life.
My parents have been together since they were children. The thought of them being forced to spend precious time apart during what may be my dad's final days because of financial circumstances is heartbreaking and terrifying. After a lifetime of choosing each other, they deserve the chance to be together through this chapter, surrounded by the peace and love they have worked so hard to build.
The generosity of others would mean so much more than help with equipment or expenses. It would ease the weight my dad carries as he worries about my mom and what will happen in the future. It would give my mom the ability to be present with her husband without the constant pressure of working seven days a week to keep everything afloat.
Most importantly, it would give them the gift of time.
Time for quiet mornings in their cabin. Time for conversations, laughter, holding hands, and making memories. Time for my mom to care for the man who has spent his life caring for her. Time for my dad to rest knowing that the woman he has loved since he was 14 will be beside him, and that they have the support they need to face whatever comes next.
We know times are difficult for so many people, and we are incredibly grateful for any support, whether it is a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
Thank you for helping us care for our dad, support our mom, and protect the little bit of peace they deserve during this unimaginable time.
Help us give Loren and Tisha what matters most: the chance to spend the time they have left together, in the home they dreamed of, without having to face this burden alone. ❤️
