Help Melissa and Tank Find Safety, Stability, and a Place to Call Home
My name is Melissa, and I'm reaching out for help during one of the hardest times of my life. It isn't easy for me to share my story or ask for help, but right now, I don't know where else to turn.
For 15 years, I worked as a paramedic before being medically retired. I've spent years trying to get through life's challenges, but I never imagined I would find myself in a position where I had lost nearly everything I owned and would be struggling just to find a safe place to sleep.
I recently left a toxic relationship because I was trying to escape an unsafe situation and rebuild my life. I went to stay with someone I believed was a friend who supposedly operated a safe house. I thought I had finally found somewhere I could feel safe and start over.
Instead, I was kicked out because I refused his sexual advances.
Suddenly, I was back out on the streets with nowhere to go. My support dog, Tank, and I have been sleeping in my car, trying to get through each day with what little I have left.
Tank has been by my side through all of this. He's more than just a dog to me; he's my support animal and my companion during a time when I've felt like I've lost almost everything else. I'm doing everything I can to keep us both safe.
I'm now trying to recover from everything that has happened, both physically and emotionally, while still facing the reality that I have nowhere stable to live.
I live on my medical retirement income, which is very limited. With the cost of housing being so high, I simply cannot afford the money needed to move into an apartment. I can't come up with the first month's rent and security deposit, and I'm falling behind on my car payments.
I'm terrified of losing my car because it's currently the only shelter Tank and I have.
🏠 What I Need Help With
I desperately need help getting out of my car and into a safe place where Tank and I can finally rest without worrying about where we'll sleep the next night.
I need help securing an apartment and covering the expenses that come with starting over, including:
First month's rent and security deposit so I can move into a safe home.
Utilities, including electricity and water, so I can make my new home livable.
Furniture and household essentials because I have lost everything and have nothing to furnish an apartment with. I'll need basic necessities such as a bed, somewhere to sit, kitchen supplies, and other items needed to make a house a home.
Basic living expenses while I work toward getting my life back together.
Help with my car payments so I can keep my vehicle, which is currently our only shelter and an essential way for me to get around.
Every bit of help will bring me one step closer to stability, safety, and a fresh start.
💔 Why I'm Asking for Help
I never thought I would be in this position. After working for years as a paramedic, I know what it means to help people during their darkest moments. I've spent much of my life trying to do the right thing, and now I'm the one who needs someone to reach out a helping hand.
I'm not asking for help because I don't want to help myself. I'm asking for a chance to get back on my feet.
It is difficult to put my pride aside and admit that I cannot do this alone, but I have to try. I need a safe place to call home, a chance to heal, and the opportunity to begin again without the constant fear of losing what little I have left.
Tank and I have been through so much, and all I'm asking for is a chance to rebuild our lives in a safe and stable environment.
🙏 How You Can Help
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean more to me than I can put into words. Every dollar brings me one step closer to having a home again.
If you're unable to donate, sharing my story with your friends, family, and on social media would also be an incredible help. You never know who might be able to make a difference in someone's life.
I know there are many people struggling in this world, and I understand that everyone has their own battles to fight. I am incredibly grateful to anyone who takes the time to read my story and considers helping us.
Please help me and Tank find our way to a safer, more stable life. Your kindness could make the difference between continuing to struggle just to survive and finally having the chance to rebuild.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading my story, for caring, and for helping in any way you can.
With gratitude and hope,
Melissa and Tank ❤️
